TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOURSELF, YOUR HOBBIES, GOALS AND LIFE ASPIRATIONS…
Hi! My name is Amorah and I am Heather’s niece! I am actually a first year Art Teacher, which means my hobbies include painting and drawing! I graduated from Illinois State in Dec. 2020 and just recently landed a full-time teaching position at John Deere Middle School in the Moline School District. I’m still trying to decide if I can handle being a teacher forever, but it does have it’s pros! Meaning, you’ll see me mostly at noon in the summers/fall break/winter break, etc,. ;) For now, I typically come at 5 am, if I can make it out of bed!
WHY DID YOU START CROSSFITTING OR FITNESSING?
I started Crossfitting my first year of college in the Spring of 2015. I remember just looking at myself and seeing that freshman 15 turn into more than just 15. I knew my aunt was a personal trainer at Gold’s gym and sent her a text. Once I did that, she got me started right away in Crossfit. I was originally a Crossfit Bond member, and for reason’s much like your own reasons for joining/staying, I was hooked!!
WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT WORKING OUT AND WHY DO YOU CONTINUE?
I think the biggest pro of exercising in general (not just Crossfit) is the mental lift it gives me throughout the day! I tend to be more anxious, stressed, and insecure on days that I don’t work out. That’s not to say that rest days aren’t a thing (they definitely are) but in general, it gives me a mental boost. I also enjoy the people that I workout with, which does make the WOD suck a little less knowing my buddies are suffering along with me!
HOW HAS YOUR FITNESS OR YOUR ACTIVE LIVE IMPACTED YOUR LIFE BEYOND INSIDE OF THE GYM?
I don’t have job that requires a lot of heavy lifting but the mental boost has made me more productive and easier to approach. I have more energy to get through the day with all the crazy middle schoolers. I also use my fitness skills to try and impress my students with handstand walks and push up contests. (I’ve definitely beat all the boys so far)
IF YOU NEVER HAD TO DO ONE EXERCISE MOVEMENT AGAIN, WHAT WOULD IT BE?
That stupid bike…
WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT BEING PART OF OUR FITFAM?
I love our community of people. I’ve not met a single person that wasn’t kind and accepting. It can be intimidating joining a new gym and also returning to the gym after a long “break”. Although our friends will keep you accountable, they don’t make you feel less than for having to take a break or whatever that looks like for you. I’ve always felt accepted and challenged and that’s what you need from your fit fam.
I also love how connected we stay, even when we aren’t in the same classes together our members talk to each other through social media and physical events that we hold!
I truly can’t say enough good things about our fit fam!!
