TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOURSELF, YOUR HOBBIES, GOALS AND LIFE ASPIRATIONS...
I have lived in Quad Cities for almost 20 years. Married with three children, a 16, 14 and 11 year old. I have always enjoyed exercise but until CrossFit, mostly exercised at home. One of my hobbies is brewing beer. One of my life goals is to live to be a healthy 100 year old.
WHY DID YOU START CROSSFITTING OR FITNESSING?
I didn’t really understand what CrossFit was about. My impression was based on watching some of the documentaries on Netflix, seeing the Games and knowing some people who were really into it. Didn’t seem like it was for me. Then one of my former students gave a presentation on CrossFit, how it can be modified for almost anyone, and the community around CrossFit. I was looking to get out of the house for my exercise and decided to try CrossFit. I have enjoyed it since starting, every day is a challenge.
WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT WORKING OUT AND WHY DO YOU CONTINUE?
I love the mix of the workouts. Each day is different. I love that someone does the work to design these great workouts and I can just show up. I have enjoyed the community and the people. I like the feedback from the coaches on how to get a little better each day. I look forward to the workouts and feel bad if I don’t get 3-4 sessions in a week.
HOW HAS YOUR FITNESS OR YOUR ACTIVE LIVE IMPACTED YOUR LIFE BEYOND INSIDE OF THE GYM?
I am in much better shape than I have ever been in. The best part is how CrossFit has improved other parts of my health. I am less tired during the day. I have improved my eating habits by focusing on more vegetables and plant based proteins because I want to feel better during my workouts. I have cut back on my beer consumption (see home brewing hobby above) and I working on going to bed earlier (that is hard, see teenage children above).
IF YOU NEVER HAD TO DO ONE EXERCISE MOVEMENT AGAIN, WHAT WOULD IT BE?
I hate overhead squats, but I will eventually get better at them.
WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT BEING PART OF OUR FITFAM?
Everyone is welcoming and supportive. I love how we cheer and congratulate each other.
