TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOURSELF, YOUR HOBBIES, GOALS AND LIFE ASPIRATIONS...
I have lived in Iowa the majority of my life. Go Hawkeyes! I work for Unity Point as an occupational therapist in an outpatient setting. I'm married to Aaron who works as a personal trainer (and that's how I met Heather back at Gold's Gym! :) We have three kids, Jackson (7), Camden (5), and Ellie (1), who normally are hanging out in the kids room most of the time. I love to run and bike and use these things as a way to see the world. The free time we have we love to be active with our kids and travel as much as we're able to. Hoping to run on the beach or climb a mountain again soon!
WHY DID YOU START CROSSFITTING OR FITNESSING?
I have always been very active. I swam and played softball when I was younger and started running in college. But as an adult, just going to the gym on my own was very boring and unmotivating for me. Then after I started having kids and I had less time, I needed more accountability and a more efficient workout. So I started doing bootcamps at Crossfit Bond and even though I was very intimidated by crossfitting at first, I started to try it out little by little and now it has been the perfect outlet for me for the last 3-4 years. It's always fun and makes me push myself harder than I ever would on my own. And it has helped me to love lifting weights which I never thought I would ever love lifting!
WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT WORKING OUT AND WHY DO YOU CONTINUE?
It's my therapy! I feel alive and lucky and blessed to be able to use my body to run, jump, lift, do all the amazing things we do and so I take advantage of it as much as possible. And I get super cranky if I don't!
HOW HAS YOUR FITNESS OR YOUR ACTIVE LIVE IMPACTED YOUR LIFE BEYOND INSIDE OF THE GYM?
I have three kids that I want to set an example for, teach them it's important to take care of your body. A large part of my job is also teaching my patients how to take care of their bodies, whether it's to rehab an injury, deal with chronic pain or when recovering from a stroke or brain injury. So I feel it's extremely important to lead by example for them, too. Also, most of my favorite hobbies are centered around being very active and it's important to me to be able to continue to do those things for years to come.
IF YOU NEVER HAD TO DO ONE EXERCISE MOVEMENT AGAIN, WHAT WOULD IT BE?
SHORT GIRLS SHOULDN'T HAVE TO DO WALL BALLS
WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT BEING PART OF OUR FITFAM?
This gym is amazing. Everyone supports everyone. There is a place for all levels of fitness to feel welcome and comfortable. The owners and coaches care about helping everyone in all facets of our wellbeing and that is truly unique. I have met some wonderful people and created friendships I never would have if I was not part of this gym. That is something I'm so grateful for and why I look forward to going every day.
